INTERWOVEN VOIDS
Private Residence in Patras -design in small plot
Patras,Greece 2024-2025 Completed
Interwoven Voids is a single-storey residence of 120 sq.m. in Patras, situated on a long and narrow 300 sq.m. plot. The primary programmatic requirements include two bedrooms, a home office/guest room, two bathrooms, and day-use living spaces.
The proportions of the plot, its direct relationship to the street, the adjacency to built plots on the north and west, and the connection to the undeveloped land to the east informed the spatial and morphological decisions from the outset.
Rather than adopting a compact building volume with a peripheral courtyard—a solution that would restrict natural daylight and expose outdoor spaces—the design unfolds across the site through a sequence of atria and protected courtyards.
Permeable axes of openings establish continuous visual connections between interior and exterior, reinforcing a sense of spatial expansion and depth. The use of screen walls (brise-soleil / lattice screens) operates as a semi-transparent threshold between public and private realms: on the street façade, they prevent direct visual and physical access, while within the courtyards they construct a layer of privacy in relation to the neighboring buildings.
